Abstract

The article is devoted to substantiating principles of morphogenesis in furniture design, which consist in combining design and engineering approaches by furniture structures systematization derived from basic classes. The offered approach enables developing versatile analytical model applicable to both design practice and educational process, providing holistic understanding of relationship between shape and structure. Methodological ground of the study consists in integrative approach to analysis of furniture structures, combining theoretical principles with applied aspects of design practice. To reveal principles in development of structures, historical analysis of furniture evolution was conducted focusing on changes in stylistic and technological approaches. The proposed approach to developing furniture design emphasizes fundamental structural and form-generating principles, applicable not only to furniture design but also to a broader field of designing technical and spatial systems. Within this framework, structure is considered as both an integral part of artistic design and its technical foundation. The research results demonstrate that even in experimental design projects, structural logic remains the determining factor, and its understanding through the classification approach contributes to improving design quality. The conducted research confirms the effectiveness of the proposed classification as an analytical tool in projects that combine expressive shape with rational construction, forming the foundation for design projects validated as rational from the engineering perspective.
