CONTEMPORARY METHODS OF RESTORATION OF WOODEN POLYCHROME SCULPTURE IN UKRAINE

Abstract

Wooden polychrome sculpture in the round is an important component of Ukraine’s national cultural heritage. A significant number of these monuments have survived to the present day in a fragmentary or damaged condition due to the organic nature of wood, the complex multilayer structure of polychromy, and the long-term impact of climatic, biological, and anthropogenic factors. The article examines modern approaches to the conservation and restoration of wooden polychrome sculpture in the round. The theoretical foundations of restoration practice and practical intervention methods are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the issue of authenticity and the application of modern technologies for the examination and documentation of the condition of cultural heritage objects. The aim of the article is to analyze contemporary methods of restoration of wooden polychrome sculpture in the round and to identify the main trends and challenges in this field. The research methodology is based on an interdisciplinary approach that combines art historical analysis, principles of restoration theory, materials science methods, and the study of practical experience of Ukrainian restoration workshops and educational institutions
